History
The Trinity Congregation began more than 100 years ago---it was originally a small group of residents meeting in a home; then they realized the need for a local church; then they included a cemetery. The original site was on the North Road, where our cemetery still is.
After the "new" highway 61 was built along the shore, the congregation decided to build a newer church near the highway. Ease of access in those days was very important. In the late 1940s the congregation, local residents, and summer-time groups of students built the church building. God's work was being continued in a new place, but with the same presence of the Holy Spirit and dedication of the congregation.
In 2006 Trinity voted to step out of joint parish life, and became a solo congregation of the ELCA. For almost 100 years we'd been in ministry with Bethlehem in Grand Marais -- and while we are still often together on projects, Trinity has been able to establish vibrant ministries with a full-time pastor, Hovland parsonage, and involvement of many members.
Our congregation has residents who are here more in the winter than the summer, and others here more in the summer. Still others visit occasionally throughout the year; others live here and worship together almost every Sunday. It is a fellowhship of believers who say, in the words of the Apostle's Creed: I believe in God the Father...In Jesus Christ...In the Holy Spirit.
Join us any Sunday, you are welcome and we look forward to getting to know you.
